Before you install TeleMagic...
1. Read this file completely. It has important information not found elsewhere.
2. You may print this file by selecting "Print" from the File Menu.
3. Do not attempt to install TeleMagic by copying the TeleMagic MU Folder on this disk to your Server’s Hard Disk. It is installed by UNPACKING it from the floppy disk to your Server’s Hard Disk. Please use the new user installation instructions on page 11 of the Guidebook.
4. Additional Multi-User notes are included as an addendum to the Guidebook.
1. IMPORTANT NOTES
This file contains updates and changes which were made after the documentation went to print.
This update assumes that you have the latest edition of the Guidebook for Release TEN, which is dated September 1, 1989 on the cover page.
2. MULTI-USER NOTES
a. This Multiuser Version is for AppleShare or Novell Networks only.
b. The log on ID is MAC.
c. The password is MASTER.
d. You may select Security under the Utilities menu and add more users, change id's,
and change passwords simply by typing in the new id and touching tab. See the
additional Multi-User Addendum or the Multi-User Help File.
e. Each user will have their own .MEM file with their log on ID included in it.
f. Do not throw away MEM files.
g. All users must run TeleMagic from the server.
3. MULTIFINDER, COLOR, OR 1 MB MAC OWNERS
If you are using Multifinder, Color, or have a 1 Megabyte Macintosh, please read the Appendix on Memory Management starting on page 213 of your TeleMagic Guidebook before you install TeleMagic.
4. FONTS
TeleMagic uses the Monaco 9 and 12 and Geneva 10 and 12 fonts. You should have all of these fonts installed in your system. If they are not installed in your system, your Contact Screen and your Help file fonts will appear to be jagged. These fonts are available on your Apple System disk and should be installed in your system for best results. See Apples's Installation Instructions.
5. PRINTING ENVELOPES
TeleMagic's default envelopes are set to print for an ImageWriter in portrait mode. If you are printing envelopes on a LaserWriter, which prints them using landscape mode (sideways), you will need to use the Report Generator to modify the orientation of the Envelope Template. 6. NEW FEATURES
TeleMagic will now dial the phone through the Sound Port using a HyperDialer from DataDesk. Select "Dialer..." from the Utilities Menu. The popup menu for modem type now includes three items; None, Hayes Compatible, and Sound Port. Selecting "Sound Port" will cause TeleMagic to create the dial tones through the Macintosh Sound Port. The notepad has been improved and no longer uses a popup menu. Now, when clicking the notepad, it automatically date and time stamps and positions the cursor for entry. You may still print and edit the notepad by selecting the appropriate item from the Contact menu.
The newest and most powerful feature of TeleMagic is “Browse” which is a complete list of all your records in a spreadsheet type format. You may find records and select them easily in the Browse mode. Choose Browse from the Find Menu or touch “Command B”. See the Browse Help File for more information.
The Goto Menu is now the Find Menu.
“Command F” is now used for “Find” in the Browse Mode as opposed to “Forward” as mentioned in the GuideBook. “Command B” is now used for “Browse” as opposed to “Backward” as mentioned in the GuideBook. See the Command Key Help File for a complete list of Command Key equivalents.
Quickie List now exports in a tab delimited format to disk and the file can be opened by other popular databases and spreadsheet programs. See the Quickie List Help File for more information.
Magic Modify from the Utilities Menu lets you add or edit records in a spreadsheet format in the Browse Window. Magic Modify does require exclusive use of TeleMagic in the Multi-User version. For more information see the Magic Modify Help File.
7. NEW REPORTS
Two new Report Templates called CONTACTLIST.FRX and RCLLIST.FRX are now included with TeleMagic. They may be printed by selecting Report Generator from the Reports Menu and clicking the “Print Report” Button. The standard Macintosh open file dialog will ask you to locate the report you want to print. Both of these reports print your Contact data in a list format using the landscape mode or sideways printing.
